Support the courts
Seven years have passed since Shiori Ito was sexually assaulted.
Until the launch of the group, Ms. Ito had been fighting almost alone, apart from the support she received from those close to her, from covering legal expenses to dealing with secondary victimization. With so many victims of sexual violence in difficult situations, Ms. Ito herself felt that it was not right for her to be the only one to receive support, and although there had been people who offered to help her, she declined to set up a support organization.
Open the Black Box is in dialogue with Ms. Ito and is exploring how to provide support, aiming to create a society where victims who speak out are not subjected to criticism, feel isolated, or have their voices silenced.
Currently, Ms. Ito is fighting two lawsuits (both in appeal) regarding slander on social media, in addition to the lawsuit (currently in appeal) seeking recognition of her sexual violence as a victim and compensation. We believe that these lawsuits are extremely important in order to raise our voices together with the victims who have spoken out, so we will continue to keep a close eye on the lawsuits and provide support. We want to raise our voices so that those who want to support can call out others.
We are #WithYou, standing with Ms. Ito who spoke out against #MeToo, and we are the #MeToo Voices Association. Let's raise our voices together.
